Once Human Calamity Owl Guide: Calamity Nest Locations, Skills, How to Beat & Drops

LiveUpdated 2026-10-26 · Game v3.1.1Land boss · first Nests in Fragrant Cape

Short answer: The Calamity Owl is the boss of a Calamity Nest, a land stronghold marked on the Isles of Abyss map; the first Nests show up on Fragrant Cape at Combat Level Lv. 5. Break the crystals guarding it first, cover whoever gets the Revenge mark (roll to clear its control-scrambling debuff), and when it flies up to shield itself at half health, grab a feather and touch the floating orbs to break the charge. It drops the Snow Globe - Sunken Treasure Morphed Deviation, Nest-only Tech such as Black Tide Fuel, and ship cannons: creators farm Lv. 50 Owls for tier 6 cannons.

FAQ

Where is the Calamity Owl and what does it drop?
The Calamity Owl is the boss of a Calamity Nest, a land stronghold marked on the map; the first ones show up as early as Fragrant Cape at Combat Level Lv. 5. The patch notes list the Snow Globe - Sunken Treasure Morphed Deviation as a Nest reward. Creators also get ship cannons from Owls, up to tier 6 cannons from Lv. 50 Owls, plus Nest-only Tech such as Black Tide Fuel and alloy ship plates.
Can I fight a Calamity Nest solo?
Yes. The developer says you can take it on alone or with a team. The Revenge mark is built around teamwork, though, so it is easier with someone else. One creator solos Lv. 50 Owls with a bow and the Lone Wolf set.
Why can’t I damage the Calamity Owl?
Either the crystals in the Nest are still up (usually two, sometimes three), or the Owl is in its shield phase. At about half health it flies up and takes no damage while it charges a shield; grab a fallen feather to float up and touch the floating energy orbs to break the charge.
What does the Revenge mark do?
The Owl marks one player. Enemies chase that player, but the mark is also their window to hit the Owl, so teammates should peel enemies off them. The mark also scrambles your controls; roll to clear it.
The Calamity Owl sank into the ground. What now?
That is a known issue. The October 23 notes list the Calamity Owl clipping into the ground in strongholds as a bug still being fixed.
Where does Black Tide Fuel come from?
One creator lists Black Tide Fuel as Tech you unlock only from Calamity Nests, alongside alloy ship plates and stronger ship cannons, not from exploring or Tech points. Fuel itself: [Ship fuel](/isles-of-abyss/ship-fuel/).
