Short answer: In Isles of Abyss your ship is a mobile water territory, so you can put crafting stations, storage, fishing gear and rooms on deck. Facilities are capped per category (storage showed 4 slots on one early ship), so keep a land base for bulk storage. Crafting on the ship can use materials stored in your land territory. This page is about the sailing ship base; if you meant a boat-shaped house on land, see the last section.

Ship base vs. land base
In Isles of Abyss your ship is a vehicle and also a mobile water territory (dev blog). That means the same Build Mode you use on land works on deck: the ship build menu has Hull Structure, Territory Structure, Facilities, Furniture, Furniture Pack, Prints and House Blueprint tabs. If you haven’t built a hull yet, start with how to build a ship; for hull shapes and finished layouts, see ship designs.
The ship doesn’t replace your land territory. It’s a forward base you take to the fight; the land base is where bulk storage and slow production live.
| ship base | land territory | |
|---|---|---|
| moves with you | yes, sail it or use Summon Vehicle / Relocation | no, but it can be relocated |
| facility caps | strict, shown per category at the top of the build screen | much looser |
| storage | a few containers (4 on one early ship, see below) | as much as you build |
| crafting materials | can draw on land-territory materials (see below) | uses its own storage |
| if destroyed | PvE: cargo goes to the ship vault; RaidZone: cargo lost | normal territory rules |
| Load | only structural pieces count; facilities don’t | no Load |

What you can put on your ship
Creators’ ship bases so far carry these facilities. None of them add Load, so they don’t slow the ship; only hull and other structural pieces do.
| facility | why it’s on board | source |
|---|---|---|
| Supply bench | craft cannonballs, harpoons and other ammo at sea | Grizl, MaleOreo |
| Furnace | smelt ore you pick up on islands | Grizl |

| Tech research table | reverse engineering and Tech points from recycled items | Grizl |
| Storage crates, fridge | a small cargo hold (counts toward the storage cap) | Grizl, Heartcarver |
| Trawl Net / Advanced Trawl | catches fish and floating supplies while you sail; results go to the ship vault | dev blog, Grizl |
| Tidal Cage | keeps fish; two fish can breed | dev blog, Grizl |
| Drilling Well, Generator | oil for Black Tide Fuel and more power capacity (see ship fuel) | dev blog |

| Deviant slots | one creator runs two: a fire deviant to speed up smelting and one to speed up crafting | Grizl |

Facility limits
Ships have tight caps. In one creator’s early ship, the Facilities tab shows Storage Facilities (0/4), and every container type shares those four slots: a fridge, two crates and a storage transfer terminal already fill it. The same creator says production stations and planting spots are capped too.

The caps seem to grow as you progress. On that early ship the counters across the top of the build screen read 2/100 and 0/4; on another creator’s bigger houseboat later on day one they read 105/200 and 0/6. The developer hasn’t said what raises them (Tech level, Building Rating or something else), and the patch notes don’t list the numbers.

Storage: does the ship share with your land base?
Short version: crafting on the ship can use your land materials; carrying cargo still means ship storage.
- What one creator showed. MaleOreo crafted at a supply bench on his ship using a Blaze Core Lantern, metal scraps, iron ingots and fuel that were all stored at his land base, with none in his inventory and no chests on the ship. He then sailed until the game said he had left his territory, dropped anchor and crafted again from the same base materials.
- What the Steam thread says. On launch day a player found that building on the ship couldn’t use base resources. Replies said storage becomes shared once the ship is inside your land territory, and that the ship core’s anchor system has a setting that allows the use of territory resources. Neither reply names the exact menu option.
- Still to be announced: opening your land chests from the ship, seeing ship storage from land, and whether the anchor setting is what made MaleOreo’s remote crafting work. We’ll add these once the developer confirms.

If remote crafting doesn’t work for you, check the anchor/core settings first, then sail back inside your land territory.

What happens to items on the ship
- Ship destroyed in PvE: items aboard go into the ship’s vault, so you don’t lose them.
- Ship sunk in RaidZone: the cargo is not returned. Save the blueprint at the Anchor first; that raises the ship’s max HP and lets you summon the saved design again (patch notes).
- Summoning or relocating the ship: the patch notes only say you place a saved ship with Relocation or Summon Vehicle. They don’t say whether cargo and facility contents come along, so keep valuables in your land base.
- Trawl catches land in the ship vault, not in a crate.

Raft to houseboat on a free-to-play budget
Hull materials (wood, iron, steel, alloy) unlock through Tech. The patch notes also list a paid Bay Cruise material pack, a modern cruise-ship look for hull, bulwark and deck, but you don’t need it to build a houseboat.
One creator recommends keeping Load in the light range for combat, since the ship slows down as Load climbs. Bigger ships also turn worse, which matters when you need to dodge attack markers.
A supply bench, furnace and a couple of crates make the ship useful straight away, and facilities add no Load.
Bulwark pieces include door frames, so you can wall off a cabin around your stations. CJay’s day-one raft grew rooms and deck space this way. Remember bulwarks are structural, so each one adds Load.
Build Mode has Appearance Editing, so you can swap a door frame’s skin without replacing the piece.
Saving lets you summon it again and share the Design Layout with your squad. Steps are in how to build a ship.

Looking for a boathouse on land?
In older Once Human searches, “boat house” usually meant a house built to look like a boat, or a shed over shallow water, on a normal land territory. You can still build those on any island; they just don’t sail. therealjesstron’s free-to-play boathouse, for example, is a land-territory build on a beach (no Handling, Speed or Load gauges, and Territory Relocation in the corner): half wood foundations out over the shallows, an iron mesh floor, half walls and columns, then a wood roof that overhangs the edge. If you want something that actually moves, build the ship base above instead.
